Patrick McDonnell

Patrick McDonnell Patrick McDonnell has been standing up and making people laugh since 1996, when he appeared as a novice at the Kilkenny Cat Laughs Comedy Festival. He later went on to appear in the final of Channel 4's So You Think You’re Funny competition in Edinburgh. Since then he has returned to both festivals, appeared in a film with a band synonymous with his act (the very scary Prodigy) and continues to impress audiences in Britain and Ireland with his unique brand of outraged nonsense.

Patrick co-wrote and performed on the two series of the "O Show" for BBC Radio 4. He has also appeared in a number of short films, including Solomon I, Swag, Stephanie Knows Who, and the feature film Separation Anxiety. His television appearances include The Empire Laughs Back for BBC N.I, RTE's The Lounge, and The Candidate from @ Last TV, plus a weekly slot as the roving reporter on Don't Feed the Gondolas.

Patrick is probably best recognised for his performance as country singer Eoin McLove on the hit series Father Ted. Riding on the success of this, Patrick put together a live show entitled Further Ted for the 1999 Edinburgh Festival with Joe Rooney (aka Fr. Damo from Father Ted) which played to sell out crowds and received rave reviews.

Patrick now appears in the hit RTE television show Naked Camera and also plays on the Irish comedy circuit.

"McDonnell shines with edgy, intelligent one-liners" The Stage

"McDonnell’s stand-up routine is a delight, a cynical, angry beast of a set which never loses its comic edge" The Scotsman

"If they don’t get their own television show by the time the Fringe is over, then there is seriously something deeply wrong in this world."" (The Scotsman)

"Splendidly original and a bit bizarre, he is the business" The Sunday Times.

"Truly hysterical" The List

Patrick McDonnell will appear at LeCheile 2007 in The Onyx on Sun 5th August
