Calling all budding actors, directors, script writers and film production crew - How would you like to make your own amateur movie ?

What’s the idea ?

We want to get film teams together to create a number of 15 to 20 minute films.

What’s the purpose ?

Each film submitted will be burned to a DVD which will buried in the Le Cheile 2012 time capsule. The capsule will remain sealed for 25 years, after which it will be reopened and it’s contents displayed again to the waiting public. The film will also be shown at a screening event during the festival (see below)

What kind of film ?

The film can be a drama, a soap opera, a documentary, science fiction piece etc… limited only by your imagination.

But I don’t know how to make a film !

To assist in production and to improve the quality of the finished product, we have enlisted the help of a local media professional who will be running film workshops to show the participants how to professionally produce a short film of this kind.

The workshops will cover all aspects filmmaking including - the basic principles of producing a short film , crew selection and roles, script writing, storyboarding, location management, budgeting and filiming techniques - and will help you to organise your group and to make the process more enjoyable for everyone.

What’s the theme of the film ?

Ireland 25 years from now

How do I incorporate the theme into a film ?

There are many different approaches that you could take.

Some examples are:

Population changes: How the current emigration trend will affect Ireland over the next 25 years

Social Changes: How the emergence of social media will affect the population over the next 25 years. What will the future hold for a generation who largely communicate via social media ? As adults in 25 years, how will this affect their face to face social skills ?

Medical Changes: How about a sci-fi type film that explores the advances in medical technology ? Will we be a world of super bodies ? Will we be farming spare parts for our own bodies ? Will genetic advances enable parents to choose the body type of the children ?

Technological advances: Anything from nano technology to human cloning to robot development etc. Your imagination is the only limiting factor here.

Screening

In gratitude to the efforts of all who took part, the films will be screened at a black tie, film premiere style event as part of the Le Cheile Festival 2012 and with all the pomp and ceremony of a major film release.
