Local lass comes home
If there was a prize for 'Distance Travelled to the festival' the accolade would no doubt go straight to singer/songwriter Jenna Murphy from Delvin, Co Meath. Huh ? But Delvin isn't that far away !... Well yes, but in recent years Jenna has been living and plying her trade across the continent of Austrailia. Opening for acts such as Mundy in Sydney along the way.
Jenna Murphy plays the Acoustic Garden stage on Friday 3rd August.
Jenna Murphy’s soulful combination of indie-folk melodies and pop hooks, combined with emotive lyrics and instrumental prowess are set to forge a new sound in the acoustic scene. Originally from Ireland, her unique style heralds a beautiful Celtic
essence that sets her apart from her peers.
Jenna has been living in Australia for the past 4 years after coming to OZ for a wedding and forgetting to leave. She managed to finish a music Degree in classical piano before she left (although most of her songs are written on guitar) and has definitely created an impressive name for herself on the Sydney song writing scene
“You know, there are only a small percentage of albums that offer the whole package. I believe Jenna Murphy’s “Ancient Sea Warrior” is one of those albums.” Shashona McCall, Indie Showcase 2011.
.
Last year, Jenna’s debut EP ‘Ancient Sea Warrior’ was recorded and produced in partnership with Mark Stanley of Red Room Records in Melbourne. The result is an outstanding fusion of musical influences, from artists such as countrymen, Glen Hansard (Once,Swell Season) Gemma Hayes and a diverse range of others including Beirut, Fleet Foxes, Laura Marling, Bon Iver and Radiohead. “Jenna has a beautiful voice that captures listeners” Mike McCready’s Music Xray: 21st Century A&R, Nashville Music Guide
In 2011 Jenna was invited to support internationally acclaimed recording artist Mundy (ʻTo You I Bestowʼ – Romeo & Juliet Soundtrack) on the Australian leg of his world tour.
“Jenna opened for me in Sydney. She had great command of the room; she has a great voice and energy. The music is in her soul for sure and she knows how to write!” Mundy
